The Fisherman and his Wife

Puppet theater freely based on the Brothers Grimm

People are unhappy, everyone just cares for themselves, and no one believes in God anymore. This really bothers God! He can’t just let this slide! So he appears to the poor fisherman in the shape of a halibut and promises to grant him a wish – hoping he can get back in the game. However, the fisherman’s wife keeps coming up with new wishes. Soon, she wants a cabin, a mansion, a castle, a kingdom… Now she even wants to become an empress. And then Pope… and then… God. Oh God, thinks God. What now?

“The Fisherman and His Wife” is a poetic fairy tale about an excessive belief in material happiness. Although the wife and the fisherman love each other, every new wish drives them further and further apart. Will they find their way back to true contentment?
