Crazy Old Me

A poetic and humorous play about growing older

What does it actually mean to grow older as a puppeteer?

Guided by this question, Karin Schäfer discovers, bit by bit, that aging does indeed have certain advantages. You just have to have the courage to own it. Scene by scene, her old ego on the stage reconquers its métier:

When vision grows blurry, the planned paper theater performance becomes blurry, too. When the hands get shaky, trembling becomes part of the act. When hearing becomes difficult, silence is essential. Every theatrical and personal challenge asks for a creative transformation on stage. In the process, Schäfer repeatedly – and often literally – struggles with her memory. And so she succeeds in what she set out to do, without even meaning to: aging is possible, it creates new perspectives and opens up unexpected dimensions.

Making theater means experimenting, having the courage to fail, and the drive to keep going.
